• Night sweats as from menopause for example.
• Caffeine taken too close to bedtime.

The consequences may be most marked when that deprivation is of recent onset and short duration. However, chronic sleep deprivation also can have serious consequence

Severe sleep deprivation will lead to memory problems and will make it harder to process new information.

Not sleeping enough is bad for your mood. Chronic sleep deprivation will even change the serotonin system in the brain. Low serotonin is associated with depression, stress, and many psychological symptoms. Remember, sleep deprivation is a popular form of torture.

Reduced concentration and reaction time
Responsiveness will be slower and it will be harder to fully focus on your daily tasks. This can make driving dangerous. The probability of all accidents increases enormously when you are tired.

Too little sleep can make you suffer from all kinds of physical complaints such as muscle pain, headache, dizziness, trembling, nausea etc. Especially headache and sleep deprivation often go hand in hand. Research has shown that people who are prone to headaches have a higher than average need for sleep.
