When the thyroid gland, in the midline in front of the neck, below the “Adam’s Apple” in men, becomes enlarged this is referred to as goitre. It is usually seen in women as a large smooth swelling in front of the neck. There is a lot of possible cause for goitre. Lack of iodine in the diet, hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis are some causes of goitre to mention only a few.
