A miscarriage is the loss of a baby before 20 weeks gestation. 85% of miscarriages occur before 12 week’s gestation and one in five pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. Also, what is not generally appreciated is that many “normal” or slightly late menstrual periods are in fact very early miscarriages. Studies have shown that up to 30% of “menstrual periods” do in fact contain products of conception or foetal material. Obviously, in these cases, there will be no signs of miscarriage.
